Ahmad Baeg Chughtai
Mr. Chughtai is an immigrant and an advocate for social justice. He is a life-long student of philosophy, a devotee of Kant’s ethics, Descartes’ radical skepticism and Plato’s concept of the Guardian class. His work reflects his philosophy; as a member of AmeriCorps, he helped Title 1 schools organize after-school programs for the most vulnerable students, and as a special education teacher for the behaviorally challenged, he helped students transition to mainstream classes. He has combined his passion for philanthropy with political advocacy; he worked for Texas State Representative Hubert Vo as his Field Director, for City Council Member Mike Laster as his Agenda and Policy Director and most recently, as the Asian American and Pacific Island Outreach Coordinator for the Texas Democratic Party. During law school, he practiced as a student attorney at the University of Houston’s Immigration Clinic, where he successfully helped an asylum seeker obtain asylum, an undocumented juvenile obtain a residency card and helped a VAWA petitioner obtain work authorization.
